Japan launches e-visa for tourists from 10 countries – Apply online

Traveling to Japan just got a whole lot easier. Japan has introduced a digital e-visa system, making it easier for tourists from selected countries to visit for up to 90 days.

As of May 23, 2025, Japan has officially launched its new Japan eVisa system, allowing short-term tourists to apply for visas completely online.

The move marks a significant change in the way foreign travelers enter the country, especially as Japan prepares for major international events, such as the 2025 Osaka Expo. Tourists no longer need to visit Japanese embassies or consulates for short-term travel, at least not in most cases.

These visas are still issued as physical stickers placed in your passport.
