New Driving Rules In Saudi Arabia
The Saudi Transport General Authority (TGA) recently issued new driving rules and regulations for bus drivers, working and rest hours in the Saudi Arabia. The purpose of these regulations is to improve road safety, enhance the quality of services provided to customers and create a conducive working environment for drivers.
The decision is part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to improve road safety and public transport services in the country. In line with this objective, the Kingdom recently launched its first electric public transport bus in Jeddah city. The bus has a high efficiency rate, consumes less than 10 percent of electricity compared to other buses, and can travel up to 300 km on a single charge.

The maximum number of driving hours per day is set at 9 hours, with allowance for an extra hour twice a week. Drivers’ weekly working hours must not exceed 56 hours, and the total authorized working hours in a 14-day period must not exceed 90 hours.
Rest time is set at 45 minutes per 4.5 driving hours and 11 hours per 23 driving hours. Weekly rest time is 45 consecutive hours for a maximum of 6 working days. These rules apply to all drivers and transport employees, regardless of the number of buses authorized to drive.
