Extensive investigations are underway regarding possible public holiday on Iqbal Day, Thursday, November 9, 2023. which is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of the respected national poet and philosopher of Pakistan, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The inquiry stems from previous incidents where the holiday was canceled a few years ago but was reinstated in 2022.

The Cabinet Division released the schedule of public holidays for the year 2023, according to which Iqbal Day will be a public holiday in Pakistan on Thursday. Iqbal Day is included in the federal government’s list of gazetted holidays for the year 2023. The government also issued a notification regarding the holiday of Iqbal Day on November 9.

It may be recalled that public holiday on Iqbal Day was suspended in 2015 during the previous regime of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN). Following the 2015 judgment, a petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC). In which it was said that November 9 should be celebrated as a public holiday in memory of the national poet.

The federal government of Pakistan has announced a public holiday on 9 November, Thursday, on the occasion of Allama Iqbal Day. The notification issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said, “The Prime Minister wishes that 9th November be observed as a public holiday.”

When is 9 November Holiday was ended
