Super Blue Moon 2024
This Super Blue Moon will be visible today on August 19, 2024 and will be fully visible in the sky for three days. It is expected to be seen at 17:15 UST.
The August 2024 Full Moon will occur today this Monday, August 19, 2024. For everyone around the world, the bright crescent moon will rise in the east shortly after sunset on Monday evening. This super blue moon will be in the sky near Saturn. Also, this is the first of four consecutive full supermoons. And on top of that, it’s a blue moon.
What is a “supermoon”?
A “supermoon” occurs when the moon is either full or new and within 90 percent of its closest distance from Earth. According to astronomers, this proximity makes the moon appear slightly larger and brighter. NASA reports that this will be the first of four “supermoons” in a row, with even closer ones occurring in September and October.

What is a “blue moon”?
Although many Americans recognize a “blue moon” as the second full moon in a calendar month, this is actually a more modern interpretation of the term. The original definition, according to NASA, refers to the third full moon in a season that has four full moons. Four full moons will be visible this summer, with the last moon visible in September. It’s important to note that a “blue moon” doesn’t usually appear blue.
When is the next Supermoon 2024?
There will be three more supermoons in 2024. The Hunter’s Moon on October 17 will be the closest full moon of the year. The Harvest Moon on September 17th will be another full moon. Not only is the 2024 Harvest Moon one of the most famous full moons of the year, but it will also be partially eclipsed by Earth during the night as part of it passes into Earth’s shadow. The last supermoon of the year will be on November 15.
