According to the nofiticaiton issued by finance minister, Pertoleum prices in the international market have increased during the last fortnight. As a result the consumer prices in Pakistan are also being revised. The prices of Petroleum products w.e.f. 16th August, 2023 will therefore be as follows.

The government has already increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel by around Rs. 20 from August 1, 2023. International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan conditions forced the government to pass on the burden of rising commodity prices to the public.

It should be noted that the government is charging a petroleum levy of Rs. 55 per liter on petrol and Rs. 50 per liter on high-speed diesel. A possible increase in their prices may affect inflation in August.

Today petrol price in Pakistan is set at Rs 272.95 per liter and Diesel price in Pakistan has been set at Rs. 273.40 per liter.

According to the global trend, the caretaker government of Pakistan is likely to increase the petrol prices till the second fortnight of August 2023. It should be noted that a few days ago the price of crude oil in the world market had reached the highest level of 7 months.

Petrol and Diesel Prices Hiked By Rs 19.95 for August

Media reports have claimed that petroleum prices are likely to increase by Rs 24 per liter in the second half of the month of August. Another shock for the inflation-weary public facing high food prices. Since fuel prices directly affect the transport and agriculture sectors, any increase will further burden the public.

As of mid-August, the current price of petrol is Rs 272.95 per liter while high speed diesel is priced at Rs 273.40 per litre. If the government approves the new changes, the price of petrol will go up to around Rs 295 per liter while the price of diesel will go up to around Rs 300 per litre.

Expected price increases will add to existing problems. Because petrol and diesel prices have already increased by around Rs 20 per liter in the last revision. In recent days, the prices of refined petroleum products have increased from $13 to $111 per barrel.

The price of crude oil settled at $85.74 per barrel after a one percent decline in the Brent oil market today. While the price of US crude oil decreased by 1.3% to 82.12 dollars per barrel.
