Oscar Nominations 2024 Best Picture

After a rule change to widen the field a few years ago, the Best Picture category now has a guaranteed 10 slots available.

The general consensus is that Oppenheimer, Barbie, Poor Things, Colors of the Flower Moon and The Holders will all receive nominations.

Anatomy of a Fall, Maestro, The Zone of Interest, Past Lives and American Fiction are also seen as hot favorites and are very likely to compete for the Academy’s most prestigious prize.

But there are plenty of other contenders that could easily earn a nomination in the top category, such as The Color Purple, Society of the Snow, We’re All Strangers and December May.

In recent days, there has also been a last-minute push – as Andrea Riseborough was nominated for an outstanding performance last year – to have Origin recognized at the Oscars, after a string of pre-ceremony events. Missed out.

Oscar Nomination Best Actor

After a slightly weaker field in 2023, this year’s Best Actor category is extremely crowded and competitive.

Leading the charge is Paul Giamatti for The Holdovers, a film that sees him play a grumpy teacher who must stay at school over Christmas to supervise pupils who aren’t going home for the holidays.

Cillian Murphy is also in the running to portray theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, while Bradley Cooper may be recognized for his performance as composer Leonard Bernstein in Maestro.

Meanwhile, Rustin Colman Domingo is a strong contender to portray civil rights activist Bayard Rustin. Jeffrey Wright is best known for his role as a frustrated writer in American Fiction.

The 22nd Annual Crystal Awards: Leonardo diCaprio

Other possible but slightly less likely contenders include Colors of the Flower Moon star Leonardo DiCaprio, The Iron Claws’ Zac Efron, Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan and Andrew Scott for We’re All Strangers.

The Best Actress category is just as busy. Lily Gladstone is probably best known for her role in Colors of the Flower Moon as an Osage woman living in 1920s Oklahoma who must deal with attempts by white settlers to exploit her land for oil.

Poor Things star Emma Stone will almost certainly be nominated for her performance as an infant whose brain is transplanted into an adult woman’s body, who then goes on an adventure around the world. Goes out.

Sandra Holler may be recognized for playing a mother accused of murdering her husband in Anatomy of a Fall. While Maestro’s Carey Mulligan is likely to be one of the few British nominees to portray Leonard Bernstein’s wife Felicia Montelegre.

The Academy may also include Margot Robbie for Barbie, the monster box office hit she also produced. Past Lives star Greta Lee as a woman who reconnects with her childhood sweetheart, or Nyad’s Annette Bening as record-breaking swimmer Diana Nyad.

There’s still a chance The Color Purple star Fantasia Barrino could make it, as could Cailee Spaeny for her portrayal of Priscilla Presley.
