Major reduction in petroleum product prices likely from May 16

There is a possibility of a major drop in the prices of petroleum products in Pakistan in the next 15 days starting from May 16.

Petroleum products may become cheaper due to a slight decline in the international market and an import premium on petrol. Petrol and diesel prices are likely to fall by Rs 3.5 and Rs 7 per liter respectively.

Sources say that based on the current tax rate, the final calculation on May 15 is estimated to reduce the ex-depot price of petrol by about Rs 3.5. The price of high-speed diesel may decrease by Rs 7 per liter.

The reduction in the price of petrol was estimated based on a decrease of about $1.5 per barrel in the international price of petrol and about $3 per barrel in the price of diesel over the past two weeks.

The current price of ex-depot petrol is Rs 252.63 per liter.

How to get New currency notes on Eid 2025 in Pakistan

As the holy month of Ramadan progresses and the joys of Eid al-Fitr draw near, Pakistanis are eagerly preparing for the joyous tradition of giving Eid gifts to their loved ones, usually in the form of new currency notes.

In the past, the central bank used to issue fresh currency notes worth millions of rupees before Eid al-Fitr. However, since the coronavirus pandemic, this practice has been stopped. As a result, Pakistanis have had to make do with torn notes to celebrate Eid.

New currency notes on Eid 2025

Sources claim that the chances of new notes being issued on Eid 2025 are very slim. Although the State Bank has not made any official announcement regarding the issuance of new notes, it is unlikely that the central bank will issue new currency notes for Eid-ul-Fitr.

On the other hand, currency dealers will continue to sell new notes at high prices on the black market, as per tradition. This means that those who want to give new notes as Eid gifts will have to buy them at a higher price.

There is no complete ban on UAE visas for Pakistanis. UAE Consul General

The Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development was told on Monday that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has not “completely refused” to issue visas to Pakistani citizens despite ongoing concerns regarding visa restrictions.

According to a Senate press release, the Secretary of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OPHRD) clarified that while the demand for unskilled labor has decreased, there is no restriction on skilled workers.

“As far as Dubai is concerned, there are no restrictions,” the secretary stressed, stressing that each country has its own objectives when it comes to labor demand. The secretary also highlighted that nearly 700,000 workers have migrated abroad this year, emphasizing the need to focus on sending more skilled workers.

The UAE Has Banned Visas From 20 Countries 2023

However, Senator Khanzada expressed concern over the ongoing issue, saying that many people are asking when the visa restrictions will end. He said, “Agents claim to meet all the requirements when applying for visas, yet visas are not being issued.”

The committee called for further action, with Khanzada urging officials to provide updates on compliance and timelines to inform the public. He also suggested inviting Overseas Employment Promoters (OEPs) to future meetings to ensure proper checks and balances.

The Foreign Office had previously rejected the notion of a complete visa ban, with spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch clarifying that granting visas was a sovereign decision of the UAE.

Dr. Bakhit Ateeq Al-Rumaithi, Consul General of the UAE in Karachi, also rejected the perception of a visa ban, emphasizing that Pakistan is a priority for the UAE in business and investment.

While improvements have been noted, Pakistani citizens still face significant challenges in the UAE visa process, a situation that remains a major point of contention between the two governments.
