Sacrifice (qurbani) is a sacred act of worship that Allah (S.W.T) has greatly encouraged. Every year during the holy month of Dhu al-Hijjah, Muslims around the world slaughter an animal (goat, sheep, cow or camel) to show the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) to sacrifice his son Ismail. There are several principles of sacrifice that must be followed in order for the slaughter of an animal to count as a sacrifice.

For the sacrifice to be obligatory, a Muslim must have 7.5 tolas of gold, or 52.5 tolas of silver, or its monetary value to meet Qurbani ka Nisab 2024. Or his value in goods and things other than his basic need, such as his house and daily necessities.

Whoever has this wealth is called Nisab and it becomes obligatory on him to sacrifice and give Sadaqah al-Fitr. It was further said that if the aspirant and his father were the priests, then both of them should individually sacrifice their animals. (And Allah knows the best).
