Punjab govt imposed tax on online challan for traffic violations
Recently the government of Punjab has imposed tax on online challan for traffic violations. Citizens will have to submit additional tax along with challan for traffic violation. Any traffic challan will attract an additional tax of Rs 15 along with a fine.
The penalty for challan without a helmet is Rs 2000 but an additional deposit of Rs 15 will be required. The learner license fee is Rs 500 but citizens have to pay Rs 515. A tax of Rs 15 will also have to be paid on renewal of driving license, new license, character certificate.
The traffic police will collect around Rs 16 crore annually as a tax of only Rs 15. Last year, Traffic Police Punjab issued challan tickets to more than one crore citizens.
Good news for citizens who failed the driving license test
Generally, when a traffic violation occurs, the traffic police officer issues a ticket detailing the offense and the amount of the fine. On-time payment usually involves a single payment, but a late penalty can be doubled.
