Price of petrol is likely to increase by Rs 4 from March 1

Price of petrol is likely to increase by around Rs 4 per liter on Friday for 15 days starting March 1, 2025 due to exchange rate fluctuations: Report

Sources say that according to the final estimate, the price of ex-depot petrol is expected to increase by Rs 4 to Rs 4.50 per liter on February 28. The price of high-speed diesel (HSD) and kerosene may decrease by less than Rs 1 per liter.

Today on 26th March, 2025, the current price of ex-depot petrol is Rs 256.13 per litre and high-speed diesel is Rs 263.95 per litre in Pakistan. The official price of kerosene is Rs 171.65 per litre but it is being sold for Rs 300 to Rs 350 per litre.

The increase in petrol prices is expected to be driven by a slight increase in international rates and a depreciation of the exchange rate against the dollar. Benchmark Brent prices have generally been stable over the past 10 days.

Expected fuel prices in Pakistan from April 16, 2024

In view of the change in global prices and the federal government’s plan to increase the levy, the expected fuel prices is estimated to be around Rs 300 from April 16, 2024 in Pakistan.

The price of petrol will increase from Rs 289.40 per liter to Rs 298 per liter for the next two weeks. Diesel price is also expected to increase by around Rs 2 per liter from the previous rate of Rs 282 to around Rs 284.24 per litre.

Unofficial reports further claim that the Pakistani government is considering increasing the petroleum levy from Rs 60 to Rs 100 per litre, with the current levy already at a maximum of Rs 60 per litre.

This could lead to a record hike in petrol prices in Pakistan, and the government will announce new prices based on the final exchange rate on April 15.
