Ghanian گھنیاں

Ghanian   گھنیاں شریف

Amir irfan joya

By (Amir Irfan Joya)

Introduction

Ghanian is ideally situated 6 kilometers east of Phalia along the Saadullah Pur Road. This positioning makes it a vital hub, connecting the local population to the broader commercial networks of the district while maintaining its serene, countryside charm. The Village is away from District Mandi Bahauddin about 22KM in South West side.

Ghanian has emerged as a premier Union Council in the Mandi Bahauddin District, setting a benchmark for what a “modern village” looks like in rural Punjab. Through a combination of strategic location and community-driven development, it offers a lifestyle that rivals many urban centers.

Urban Amenities in a Rural Setting

The village has evolved into a self-sufficient community where every necessity of life is within reach. It is characterized by:

  • Comprehensive Markets: From daily essentials to technical goods, residents no longer need to travel to the city for their basic needs.

  • Infrastructure: Well-paved streets, efficient drainage systems, and organized public spaces define its modern layout.

Healthcare and Education

  • Healthcare Excellence: The presence of a dedicated Health Center BHU Ghanaian ensures that the community has immediate access to medical care, providing a vital safety net for families.

  • Educational Standard: The schools in Ghanian are recognized for their high standards of discipline and academic performance. These institutions are playing a crucial role in shaping a skilled and knowledgeable younger generation.

Ghanian: Historical Roots and the Legacy of the “Kanhaiya Misl”

Have you ever wondered how our village, Ghanian, got its name? If we turn the pages of history, we find its roots connected to one of Punjab’s most powerful and brave confederacies, known as the “Kanhaiya Misl.”

The word “Ghanian” is actually derived from “Kanhaiya.” In the local dialects of this region (Mandi Bahauddin and Gujrat), “Kanhaiya” was often pronounced as “Ghannya” or “Ghanian” over time. Before the Partition of India, during the height of the Sikh Misls, this settlement became known as “Ghanian” (meaning the place of the Kanhaiyas) due to the settlement and influence of people belonging to this particular Misl.

While Ghanian may not have been the Misl’s political capital, historical patterns suggest the village likely served as a:

  • Strategic Outpost: A settlement established or governed by a high-ranking Sardar (Commander) of the Kanhaiya Misl.

  • Estate of Honor: Land granted to warriors or influential families belonging to the Misl, eventually leading the locals to refer to the area as “the place of the Kanhaiyas”—or simply, Ghanian.

    Situation in 1947

This village traces its roots back to the era long before the Partition of India and Pakistan. It was a place where Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs lived in harmony, their lives intertwined like the roots of the ancient trees that shaded them. Together, they tended the fields, sharing the same soil and the same dreams of a peaceful future.

However, when the flames of Partition were ignited, the peace of this sanctuary was tragically consumed. It is heart-wrenching to recall how the shadow of violence reached these quiet streets. Riots broke out, turning neighbors into strangers; homes were reduced to ashes, and many precious lives were lost to the chaos.

Even now, decades later, the village elders carry the weight of that sorrow. Whenever they speak of those dark days, their voices tremble and their eyes fill with tears—a silent testament to the pain of a brotherhood lost and a peace that was never fully restored.

Village Ghanian: Geographical Position and Social Significance

Village Ghanian is uniquely structured and holds a prominent position in the region. Geographically and administratively, the village is divided into four main sections (Mohallas):

1. The Adda (The Central Hub): The Adda serves as the “backbone” of Village Ghanian. Established over 50 years ago, it has been the primary center for transportation and connectivity. This spot has witnessed the evolution of travel over decades; it saw the era of horse-drawn carriages (Tongas), transitioned through the period of wagons and buses, and is now a modern transport hub featuring a rickshaw stand, ambulance services, and a point for renting vehicles.

Beyond transportation, the Adda functions as the Community Center for the entire village. It houses the PTCL exchange and various shops, making it the most significant economic and social landmark of the area.

2. Eastern Mohallah (Mashriqi Mohallah) 3. Southern Mohallah (Janubi Mohallah) 4. Western Mohallah (Maghribi Mohallah)

All these sectors of Ghanian are well-known for their traditional harmony and mutual brotherhood. The central position of the Adda links all these neighborhoods together, providing not only employment for the locals but also serving as a vital junction for the surrounding areas.

The Revolutionary Role of Ghanian Welfare Foundation

The most significant turning point in the village’s recent history is the emergence of the Ghanian Welfare Foundation. This organization has brought about a revolutionary change by uniting the entire community on a single platform. The foundation has successfully fostered a spirit of unity and brotherhood among the residents.

Under its dedicated management, several key projects are flourishing:

  • Public Infrastructure: Systematic village cleaning drives and the installation of street lights have modernized the village’s landscape.

  • Emergency Services: A dedicated Ambulance Service ensures timely medical assistance for the residents.

  • Social Safety Net: The foundation effectively manages various Aid Packages and support programs for the underprivileged, ensuring that no one is left behind.

While agriculture remains the backbone of the local economy, the village has witnessed a significant socio-economic transformation. A substantial segment of the population has sought professional opportunities in European countries, which has significantly elevated the standard of living.

Agricultural Excellence

The fertile lands of Ghanian are primarily dedicated to the cultivation of Rice and Wheat. The region is particularly renowned for producing the premium ‘Colonel Basmati’ rice, a major source of revenue that makes the village a notable contributor to the district’s agricultural trade.

Social Progress and Education

Education is a growing priority for the residents. The village is witnessing a steady rise in its literacy rate, with a particularly encouraging trend in female education. This shift, combined with the efforts of the Welfare Foundation, ensures that Ghanian is progressing rapidly toward a bright and enlightened future.

: Problems of the Village’s People

As the Village is small so basic facilities are absent No Big hospital, No Markets, No college for Boys or Girls therefore peoples especially females have to face many difficulties in order to fulfill their daily or occasional necessa cities. Main problems of the village are as under.
Problems of the Poor People
People of the village are not very rich nor very poor. Except few houses all other can earn their livelihood easily those who are poor they are helped by the other village people in the form of Fitrana or other things in the name of God so fortunately every one is able to eat honorably.

Educational Problems Faced by Girls:

This is another main problem faced by students especially by Girls as there is no institute after F.A (Inter) degree so the girls have to face great hurdle in their career so most of them stop their education because villagers does not allow their girls to go away from their homes, so most of the girls are under inter if other want to carry on their education they do so either Privately through Punjab University or through Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad.
Promises made by the Political Leaders of the area
This is a very interesting topic because when there is period of election especially of National and Provincial Assembly it looks that all the candidates are our own and they are in election only for our village because they solve all the problems of the village with their tongue in few minutes but as soon as they becomes leaders they even refuse to recognize their major supporters until the next election comes.

Jagirdari  System
