Tehsil Mandi Bahauddin

Rasul رسول

Rasul رسول

Rasul village is one of the important historical village in District mbdin. Village Rasul was established by Raja Raam. Raja Raam was brother of Raja Moga, who established village Mong which is 6 kms in the south east of village Rasul and opposite to village Darapur. As both villages Rasul and Mong were established by real brothers, even hundreds years has been passed but Rasul is called as Mong Rasul. It is assumed that village Rasul is a branch of village Mong. Village Rasul has historical importance as well. Rasul was Head quarter of Sher Singh when the famous battle between British and Sikhs was fought at Chailianwala. Here is a Bargad (Bodh) tree which has been planted from the branch of an old Bargad tree. Government has placed marble board under this tree which demonstrates that Sher Singh’s army stopped over here.
There are also ruins of an old mosque here. There was plank placed on this mosque which was uprooted by the British Deputy Commissioner Mr. E.C. Belly. According to this plank this mosque was constructed in 1000 Hijri.

History told us that people of Village Rasul accepted Islam in the result of preaching of Islam made by a Saint (Wali Allah) who used to live here. According to this Saint, his forefather came here in the era of Moghals.
Village Rasul is also famous due to Technical College named GCT Rasul (Govt.College of Technology Rasul). Thousands of student of this institution are serving on higher positions in Pakistan and abroad.
There is also two barrages here which is called Rasul Barrage. One is called Old Rasul Barrage and other is called New Rasul Barrage. This barrage is located on the River Jehlum. This barrage has flood capacity of 24070m3/sc. Water is diverted from this point to the 538-cumec Rasul-Qadirabad Link (RQ-Link) Canal for ultimate transfer to the Sulemanki Barrage on the Sutlej River.
In 1963, the Rasul Barrage and Rasul-Qadirabad Link canal project under Indus Basin irrigation project started. The Project was managed by WAPDA, and a large colony for government employees and foreign contractors was constructed a few kilometers from Mandi Bahauddin. This project was completed in 1968 by Engineer Riazur Rahman Shariff as the Project Director.
It started expanding after the completion of Rasul Hydroelectric Power Station on Upper Jhelum Canal in 1901.

All the pigeon are taken to a big circle. The concerned owner took one of his pigeon and at the end of the circle flown upward. The pigeon flew some yard upward and then tumbles backward. The judge counts the tumble of that pigeon that landed in the circle, it disqualified if landed outside the fixed circle. The pigeon won who had most of the tumble and also landed in the circle.

The pigeon are also flown in tallies (Kits). This sport is very popular in the village. The pigeon flown in kits are very beautiful and colorful. The no of pigeons flown in kits is from 20 to 250. They don’t fly very high and trained with the help of flags, whistles and special signs.

The pigeon in  villages are flown in different and strange way. The fanciers who take part in the competition took their pigeon in open lands. The pigeon are kept in the temporary lofts made of wood. The pigeon are flown who is declared winner whose pigeons came late and landed on their temporary wooden lofts.

The majority of our pigeon breeders take part in competitions of tipplers. Tipplers are widely kept and flown in competitions. But many fancier also keep pigeons and flown them in Tukris (kits). I will describe here how the pigeons are flown in kits and what types of pigeons who take part in such competitions. Any pigeon can be trained for the kits. But these breeds are popular and prepared for kit flying. Ghagras, Katch Paras, Kabras, Lal Band Ghagra, Roshan Chirag, and Shirazi.

Kot Baloch کوٹ بلوچ

Kot Baloch کوٹ بلوچ

Information by: Muhammad Akhtar Rasool

Brief History of Village:

My sweet village Kot Baloch (کوٹ بلوچ) is located at 9 KM north from Mandi Bahuddin. The Main Bus Stop of Kot Baloch is called 8-RD. Kot Baloch was very famous during British rule due to its organized bazaar and local markets, which were under the control of Hindu community.

Its name was given due to Baloch tribes or a person (Baloch) who visit this place for the first time before 1000 years ago along with their families and animals “camels”, they live there besides the river (Corner of River Jhelum) as that location was very suitable for shelter. Usually, they spend six months and go back to their native areas for the winter season. Also, after some years some Jatt Gondal families also came from Sohawa Village (Near Mandi-Bahauddin) and they started agriculture work and construct some temporary houses in order to start living there but after some years Mr. Baloch left the area and till now its name is Kot Baloch.

Furthermore, as I have studied that there were also some other tribes in this village before Baloch because we found many things during the excavation of land/plot which shows that some peoples were living there (More than 1000 years) but due to some flood or earthquake they died or left the area but nobody has complete information about this.

Population

The population of the village is over 7,500 including both lokri and small daira of village.

Literacy Rate

The literacy rate is over 90%. The peoples of Kot Baloch are mostly loving, caring and friendly e.g. during Maila of Baba Noor Shah many people’s came from other villages and they spend 2 to 3 nights in kot baloch without any relation, only for the sake of Allah Almighty and that, they are our guest. Our Gondal families welcome guests and refresh them accordingly.

Maila Baba Noor Shah

Baba Noor Shah was a famous Wali Allah . Every farmer donates one day milk of their buffalo to Mazar Baba Noor Shah after birth of the calf.

The Main event in this maila is Horse racing and horse shows. Also on this event there is free kabadi and local kushti. Horse racing is very popular in our village and some of our village players (Gondal Brothers) Ashraf Gondal and Sakandar Gondal are famous as Top players of Tent pegging game, and mostly their groups won medals of every tournament held in Pakistan.

This maila is one of the best entertainment for our farmers , where many kind of house hold items are available as farmers do not need to go to the market frequently. So, our farmers bhai can buy their required items from this market and enjoy to watch cinema, beside this Death well and many others Shows are held in the mela . Now it has been under the control of  Punjab Government.
